Thursday evenings, 6 - 7:30 pm
WellSpace 4th Avenue
WellSpace 4th Avenue
This group is intended to provide a community of support for a broad range of mental health and other wellness service providers, including therapists, counselors, coaches, medical doctors, personal trainers, nutritionists, teachers, community activists, spiritual leaders and more.
We use our time together to discuss our experiences with those we serve (e.g., clients, students, patients) and from elsewhere in our lives--the challenges, successes, questions, hopes and goals, etc.; to learn from and support each other; explore helpful ways of listening and communicating, and in general to improve our professional skills. (And other stuff, too.)
The group welcomes professionals working from virtually all established approaches and theories but privileges the principals of narrative practice. This includes such ideas and practices as the externalization of problems and using non-pathologizing language, multiculturalism, feminism, queer theory, viewing the client as the expert and evaluator of her or his own life, examination of social and cultural influences, attention to the operations of power in relationship, deconstruction of problem stories and identities and construction of preferred stories and identities, and tentative approaches to engagement. Don't worry, you don't need to know anything about these ways of working to participate--just have an openness to them.
We are open to new members. Please join us! If you'd like to attend an upcoming meeting please go to our Meetup page, click to become a member of the group and click on "RSVP" for the night you'd like to attend, no later than 24 hours before the meeting's start time.
